Zuzunaga at Maison & Objet, September 2012


The second 2012 edition of Maison & Objet took two design extremes: angular forms and digitally-inspired prints versus an exaggeratedly natural, handmade aesthetic.

Faceted: Geometrics inspire both print and three-dimensional form, in a trend spearheaded by Tom Dixon's Etch Web light (one of the stars of Milan Fuori Salone 2012) and now taken up by planters, decorative accessories, furniture and lighting.

Dipped: This simple method of applying colour and texture to a surface continues to inspire designers and consumers alike, used mainly on hand-crafted products - or to give a hand-crafted effect.

Green: Every shade of green, from spearmint to apple and teal, is in evidence at this season's show, in line with a greater consumer desire to incorporate aspects of nature into the home. The colour is often worked tonally, incorporating shades of mustard or navy for contrast.
